Christian Aid

Christian Aid works globally for profound change that eradicates the causes of poverty, striving to achieve equality, dignity and freedom for all, regardless of faith or nationality.

Christian Aid provides urgent, practical and effective assistance where the need is great, tackling the effects of poverty as well as its root causes. Our Church here seeks to be a Christian Aid Church - by campaigning for, raising awareness of and supporting the work of Christian Aid.

In 2016 our theme is "Another Way - another way to live, act and pray".

During June we are holding a series of Bible Studies titled "Journeying Another Way" connecting with a Christian Aid partner in Bolivia. And on 27th August we will be participating in the Kelpies Canter  at the Kelpies (start time 11am).

At the start of each month we highlight an issue in the service either through a short talk, prayer or reflection.

During Christian Aid week we organise a House to House collection and also usually hold a Coffee Morning to raise funds.

We also organise a Book Sale for Christian Aid. 2016 was our eight year of the Book Sale and we raised £1150.

At Christmas, our young people in Youth Station performed a song during the service and baked and sold cakes for the Malaria Appeal raising £720.56 for the Christmas Appeal. This figure was matched by the Scottish Government.

During 2013 and 2014 we raised £5000 in a Church Partnership with Christian Aid  for a project in the Karanga District in Malawi to help improve maternal mortality rates. The money raised has gone towards strengthening village health clinics in all 63 villages, providing mobile telephones to link communities to the nearest health facilities and four motorbike ambulances to enable referrals to health facilities and the district hospital. The donation has been matched by the Scottish Government.
